Two local cancer survivors, Raya Moreno and Omar Rubio, joined forces with ABC23 to bring awareness to the upcoming Kern Cancer Run/Walk Event & Festival.
The event, which will take place on September 14, 2024, at Riverwalk Park in Bakersfield, CA, promises to be one of the year’s most impactful gatherings aimed at supporting cancer patients and raising essential funds for the foundation.
Raya and Omar, both of whom overcame cancer with assistance from KCCF, are using their stories of survival to inspire others to get involved in this significant event.
The Kern Cancer Run/Walk is not just about raising funds; it’s about community solidarity and offering a lifeline to those battling cancer in Kern County.
“This is an event for everyone. Every single person can come out and be a part of it, whether you want to volunteer, have a vendor booth, sponsor, or build a team. This is a way to really show support for patients,” said Michelle Avila, Executive Director of Kern County Cancer Foundation, in an ABC23 interview.
The Kern Cancer Run/Walk is one of the largest fundraisers for KCCF, and all proceeds directly benefit local cancer patients, providing them with critical financial assistance for treatment and care.
