The Kern County Cancer Foundation was established to assist local cancer patients with the significant expenses related to cancer care.

Before the establishment of the Kern County Cancer Foundation cancer patients had to choose between paying for their mortgage or paying for treatment. Local oncologists and community members rallied together to start KCCF in 2012 to eliminate the financial burden brought on by a cancer diagnosis.

Through donations and fundraising efforts, we have been able to award approximately $3.5 million and help more than 700 patients with the overwhelming cost of treatment. Even when insured, copays and deductibles add up quickly.

In addition to medical costs related to cancer treatment, Kern County is also challenged with a lack of treatment facilities for children diagnosed with cancer. Families have struggled with the cost of transporting their children to regular treatment out of the county. The closest treatment facility is over 100 miles away. Recognizing the need, KCCF began transporting children in 2020 to and from treatment via shuttle and providing financial assistance to qualified families.

The Kern County Cancer Foundation is proud to provide for residents of all ages and ethnic groups in Kern County regardless of where they receive their treatment.

The heart of our organization is to assist as many local patients as we can — to lend a supportive hand during a trying time. As the need in our community grows additional donations are necessary. Please join us in our efforts to meet these needs by donating today.

Community Partner

We would like to thank Kern Family Health Care for being a continued supporter of our Pediatric Mobile Angel Unit. This year KFHC provided funds to our program to cover the cost of gas for our shuttles. These shuttles transport children and their parents each week up to Valley Children's Hospital and down to UCLA, and CHLA. Our families depend on our vehicles to get to their life-saving treatment. Thank you for fueling our program!

My wife and I would like to take this time to express our deepest gratitude to you and the KCCF committee in approving financial assistance towards my cancer treatment. It's one less thing to worry about while going through this "cancer" journey.

“The Cranktones” is a group of musicians who have come together for the last seven years for the finale of the Guitar Masters season to hold a concert “Christmas with the Cranktones,” a benefit for The Kern County Cancer Foundation.

The ‘unofficial leader’ of the Cranktones, Carl Verheyen, a longtime member of perennial rock legend, Supertramp, and a frequent guest artist at the Guitar Masters concert series, is excited to bring the the music back to Bakersfield. “We love this town, so it’s never hard to convince the guys to play one more show every year,” Verheyen said. “The fans are so appreciative and into our show, and we’re always happy to lend a hand to a great cause.”

The ‘guys’ are some of the best musical sidemen in the business, including Jim Cox on keyboards; Chad Wackerman and John Ferraro on drums; Tom Child on bass; and Craig Copeland on guitar and vocals.

Cox’s credits include studio and touring gigs with Ringo Starr, Rodney Crowell, Mark Knopfler, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, and Alison Krauss.

One of the most skilled and talented drummers in all of rock and modern jazz is Chad Wackerman. Shortly after landing his first professional gig with trombonist Bill Watrous, he earned a spot touring the world with Frank Zappa. A veteran of countless recording sessions, Chad was most recently on the road with James Taylor.

Fellow Cranktone drummer, John Ferraro, is another musical ‘road warrior’, having spent his career laying down the beat in studio and on stage with artists ranging from Rod Stewart and Boz Scaggs to Burt Bacharach and Carly Simon.

Rounding out the band is one of the best-kept secrets in the LA studio scene. Craig Copeland is an outstanding guitarist and vocalist who has lent his skills to artists as diverse as The Beach Boys and Herb Alpert. Disney Imagineering executive, Tom Child, completes this band of brothers on bass guitar.
